We will only be accepting submissions from those who have purchased issue twenty-five, our tenth anniversary print edition. This will give you the perfect insight into what we're about and what we like, and it will also give us an indication that you're serious about wanting to become part of the magazine.
You can submit previously published poems and short stories because we believe a good piece (and its got to be good) deserves to be read as many times as possible. Please tell us if you are doing so and check the republication rights.
Please follow the guidelines below to the letter.
Before sending in your work, edit. Edit, edit, edit. Get your work tight and tidy. Please note that if your submission is accepted for publication we will edit your work also and we will make any changes we feel necessary, probably without consultation.
Poetry: Any length and style considered, although no rhyming verse and clichés are to be avoided. We are more attracted to 'free verse'. Please submit between three-six poems. Your submission should be presented in one word document, set in Courier, text size 12 and single-spaced.
Fiction: Fiction submissions should be between 500 and 2000 words. We are looking for beautifully written verse that either complements the form or challenges it. Ideally your writing will be distinctive and original. All genres and styles considered; we have a broad palate. We also accept excerpts from novels. Your submission should be presented as a word document, set in Courier, text size 12 and double-spaced.
Attach your submission in one word.doc only. Title your document and email with either Poetry Submission - Your Name or Fiction Submission - Your Name. In the body of the email please include a courteous cover letter and a four line, third person biography - and we mean four lines - we’re not interested in an exhaustive list of credits - Mother might be impressed, but we won't be.
If you can’t follow these simple rules, then we can’t be bothered to read your work.
If you have previously been published in Open Wide Magazine please wait three issues before submitting again.
